a little hitch on the top of the swing – im a high handicapper and each time im on top of the swing, i noticed that there is a slight pause or "hitch" which really annoys me and it sometimes causes my wrist to break. i tried shortening my swing (hip wide) but im still doing it. instead of asking for a certified golf teacher for help ($$$) any drills i can do?

Here’s a couple things you can try, but I’d try them on the range first:
I’d guess that you likely don’t have this hitch during your practice swings…so what i’d do, is set up as if your gonna hit the ball, then take a full practice swing but don’t hit the ball…then without stopping your movement, take the club back again and this time strike the ball on the way down…no pausing between swings..so one full swing with no contact straight into another swing this time contacting the ball.
Second drill you can try is to help get a rhythm to your swing. So on your back swing, count 1-2-3 then on your downswing do the same…but no stopping or pausing during the counting. focus on the counting…1-2 3 back, 1-2-3 down and thru the ball.
These hitches are usually mental issues…and the worse it gets the more you’ll focus on it. these drills should help build some rhythm to your swing and hopefully eliminate the hitch.
Good luck.
hold your hands lower at address position. this will help to promote a slightly flatter swing which should help reduce the excess time at the top of your swing.
Forget the drills for a second…….ask your self and find out……What is triggering the hitch?…..find the cause….find the cure. simple when you think about it.
