The golf swing. How do clear my lower body to get it out of the way?

Longtime hacker. How do I make my lower body rotate to allow the downswing to fall down "the slot"? I’ve tried putting weight on the left heel at the top, driving toward the hole with the right leg, all to no avail.

I seem to hit "at" the ball, rather than executing my swing and letting the clubhead move the ball.

Any thoughts?

  1. Turn your hips around (not forward) slightly before you reach the top of your backswing.

  2. Theres a drill called 1-2-3 Drill which is on the Plane Truth DVD.

1st step is to swing to the top of your backswing.
2nd step is to slide/bump your hip to the left at the same time dropping your arms to roughly waist height
3rd step swing through to your target and a full finish.

Try doing each step like a robot, taking your time to feel that your doing everything in time and together. Once you start to get the hang of it you can try doing it in one motion and speed things up till you get to your full tempo.

  3. The best I can offer is to advise a visit with a teaching pro….he or she can guide you along the path to a good reliable and repeatable golf swing. They need to see what you are doing to be able to offer the correct adjustments that may be needed. Sadly I can’t diagnose that which I can’t see. If we can’t diagnose we can’t correct.

  4. Until now, this sought-after pro only shared his "learn it now, blow away other golfers tonight" secrets of super long drives and consistent swing with a handful of lucky golfers who could afford his outrageous fees.
Now, with the sudden release of this incredible information, you can take your golf skills from wherever you are now to respected mega-skilled star status in a stunningly short time.

Best of all, you can check it all out for FREE if you like.

  5. This could depend on a number of factors in your swing. It probably has much more to do with your takeaway and position at the top of the swing than anything else. Furthermore the weight shift you are attempting at the top of your swing is a move you can not consciously duplicate. As you have experienced it is impossible to consciously mold a swing trying to think about all the mechanics. Simplify your swing and let it feel natural to you.

Start by taking 1/2-3/4 swing with slightly more of your weight on your back foot at address. On the takeaway keep your lower body quiet and don’t bend your knees during the swing. Just rotate back and through with what you feel is an easy controlled swing. Allow your weight to naturally shift forward as you execute your swing.

The swing must feel natural to be successful. If you get bogged down in specific mechanics as a high handicapper you will only suffer more and become very frustrated. Given a few simple fundamentals swing as naturally as you can, your ball-striking and distance will improve, and you’ll have way more fun. Read a site like http://www.improvinggolf.com to learn the basics or see an instructor.

I also hate to say it but if your overweight it is tougher to rotate your body… The biggest thing you can do to improve is to make your swing feel natural. The swing is too fast to remember and execute such precise movement consciously.
