What happened to my golf swing?

I just started playing golf this year (13 yrs old) And in a few months I had an ok swing and could hit the ball pretty well with iron. My dad and I go to the range every week, and this week we went and i couldn’t do anything. I kept topping the ball, missing it, or sending it into the wall of my range space. What is this??? How do I get my swing back? Do I have to start all over again? Im swinging worse than I was when I first started. Could someone help?

  1. well immy or whatever your name is you were real helpful.
It sounds like you need to just take it easy, relax and just play. A lot (or at least I’ve found, new player too) that a lot of this golf is psych….all in your head….so find your happy place, relax, then swing and you should be out golfin your dad in no time. and btw there is a great source for you to find out about your swing…. your dad!
g’luck and remember #1 rule …. have fun!!

  2. golf is sooooooooooooooo boring

  3. Get a lesson with a local pro. Best to nip any problem in the bud, especially since you’re young.

  4. Well, if you’re topping it, you might be picking your head up too soon and moving your upper body forward. Also, try taking a smoother, slower swing. You might me surprised that you can hit it further with less effort. Don’t try to kill the ball.

  5. Just keep playing. Don’t give up! that’s the worst thing you could do. You’re young enough right now that you can afford to tinker with your swing all you want and not have years of incorrect technique ingrained in your body. You’ll figure it out eventually… guaranteed.

  6. dont worry. everyone has bad days, or even weeks. dont give up and keep practicing! I’m 14 and have been playing for about 4 years and i get those days every once in a while, but then the next day, i feel pro!

  7. There seems to be a possibility of 3 problems, and considering you are a new golfer, here is what I would imagine would be causing this:
You might be trying to progress too fast and hit the ball harder. If this is the case you might be swinging too hard. This tempo change will ruin your swing and cause you to make poor contact.

Everyone hits a bad shot from time to time. Don’t let one bad shot get under your skin and discourage you. Once you hit a shot, forget it. Find your ball and focus on that shot not what went wrong with you last shot. A lot of people, myself included, tend to see a bad shot as a need for change in their swing and proceed to try to fix it. The correct thing to do is forget it and swing like your body wants to.

Third, forget the mechanics of your swing when you step up to hit. Think about what you want to try to do before you step up to the ball and decide what you are going to do. Review it in your mind, take a practice swing, and then clear your mind before you address the ball. This will let your body work like it should, the way you trained it.

    Hope this helps

  8. Dont be discouraged.I’ve been playing for eight years and I still have some days like that.We all have bad days and it just so happened that this week you had one. Also if you start having a day like that either figure out whats wrong quick or stop hitting balls. If you keep hitting balls badly you’ll get into a groove with your swing and you will be used to hitting bad shots and thats what your swing will start doing consistently.

  9. And that my friend…"is why they play the game!" cause golf is kinda like a woman…one dy she loves you, and you can almost do no wrong, the next she is a ranting raving b^tch…

i understand your situation…you should look into what you might be doing the day before or the day of going to the range..many imes when your young or much older, if you have been physically active and such (lot of arm or lower back work) you get to the range and your all stiff and tired…

i happen to lift wieghts a lot…some days if i have gone to the health club and done enough of a work out…i get to the range, and i feel like a granite statue trying to swing…all stiff no loosness…
good luck…stretch otu a bit before you swing..and dont think it too much…keep your head down and swing full!

  10. I was recently trawling the web looking for information on how to lower my golf handicap when I came across this site ( http://as101.com/ez/bvysdqfqvgek ) offering the chance to participate for a $500 Golfsmith gift card. All I had to do was enter my zip code and follow a few quick & easy instructions. I am now the proud owner of a new set of clubs but I am still waiting for my handicap to come down!

  11. You need to have someone with experience to teach you the basics of the swing- that way you know what exactly you should be doing to make the most consistent swing.
Things like Swinging in a circle. -just like a base ball swing but move the arc down to the ground.
Don’t swing the long clubs straight up and down -start the club from the inside -near your right leg – to the outside -toward the ball.
    Things like that.
