  1. Mine is not a review but a comment. I read this book because I was there when Rocco Mediate played Tiger Woods to a playoff. I was interested in learning more about Rocco and this book certainly did that for me. I found out Rocco was a moderate, middle of the field pro-golfer, not too good but not too bad, who probably knows nothing other than golf. I don’t mean this in a denigrating way but he had the luckiest days of his life in June 2008 when he played in the U.S. Open. He played a man (Tiger), not at the top of his game because of leg trouble, and had the best five playing days of his golfing career; and played to a final playoff which he “lost”, taking home only $800,000+, and perks gallore; including this book which never would have been written had Rocco not surprised everyone, including himself. Although probably a nice guy, I was disappointed to learn that Rocco apparently had very little regard for his own family, placing golf above everything else, and eventually took up with his “therapist” Cindi, putting his family aside. I do think his concern is primarily for himself, in spite of his “hail fellow well met” attitude, it’s the money, man, and Rocco knows that. I think it was extrodinarily thoughtful of him to introduce his children to his girlfriend, and to learn that they approved. Nevertheless, it was a very dramatic scene at the U.S. Open in San Diego, and I’m glad I was there to witness it. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the golfing world as it also tells us how the golfing world works, and how it produces men like Rocco Mediate who became a superstar.

  2. Rocco is not a particularly interesting fellow. If you’re a die-hard sports fan and have bought into the “Rocco As Everyman” fantasy, you’ll enjoy this book. If you’re looking for a bit more substance, save your money for a bucket of balls at the driving range.

  3. A good and insightful look into what it is like to be a journeyman pro golfer. Typical Feinstein book, easy read, somewhat formulaic, but gets the essence of the person out.

  4. From a golfer persepctive, this is very good read. I enjoyed it enough to buy 3 as gifts for my golfing buddies, and they enjoyed it as I did. First 2/3 is Rocco. Last 1/3 if the U.S. Open. The review that complains about Rocco’s personal life is mis-placed, IMO. Even though some of the personal aspects were given short thrift, they need to be touched upon, or it wouldn’t be much of a biography.

Simply put… fun read (especially for golfers)

  5. I love Rocco, I wish he won the 2008 U.S. Open, but this book is nothing more than a press release… The first half of the book does give some insight into Rocco and his life, but from there it is light in content and outright boring at times; Sorry Rocco… I wish Rocco the best in life, but must warn potential buyers to pass on this book unless you want a signed copy by Rocco or are a diehard Rocco fan like me…
